This site began as a class project. We all had to write an essay about an unsuccessful 19th century writer. I chose Henry Edward Baxter because even though his novel, Nicholas B, was not successful he was himself a very important business man.

I would like to think that someone out there will appreciate the time and thought I have put into keeping alive the memory of Mr. Baxter and his accomplishments. So far as I know he has no living relatives today.

Henry E. Baxter chose to write in a plain and simple style that was ahead of its time. He was not widely recognized as an author but his contributions in other areas helped him earn some acclaim.
